Makumbi Visitation is a Jesuit-run, Catholic High School belonging to the Archdiocese of Harare. Founded in the early 1960s by Dominican nuns, the school started off as a secondary school for girls. In 1973, a technical school was introduced at the Mission to teach boys building and carpentry skills. In 1980, at independence, these two schools merged to form Makumbi Secondary School for boys and girls. Then in 1988, A-Level was introduced at the school to form the current Makumbi Visitation High School. Currently the school numbers around 800 students, 600 of whom are borders, while the other 200 are day-scholars from the surrounding areas. The school is situated about 50km from the capital city, Harare, along the Domboshava road. |
