Australian Chef Jets in …

November 20th, 2009
by Eatout

Robyn from the Indaba Book Cafe and Sandwich Bar was up in Harare to welcome their new chef all the way from Australia. I think that Bulawayo residents will be very fortunate to have the variety of cuisine available increase.  There is no shortage of good wholesome food in Bulawayo restaurants. Kimba should add a great new fresh dimension to the available cuisine – this chef didn’t want to risk not finding his favourite herbs so he has brought along his own supply of seeds to start up his own supply of herbs at the restaurant.

Indaba also had their first book signing on Friday – we look forward to hearing how it went and some photos…

Coffee Shop after Church

November 8th, 2009
by admin

Today I was chatting with some of the youth at Nazareth house in Harare and we were talking about whether it would be nice to have a coffee shop at the church.  Any such conversation wouldn’t happen with mentioning Celebration Center where the Cee Cee’s coffee shop is.  A place where our teens can hang out a still be in a fun environment.

Another interesting area was the Cyber Cafe concept – would the church be a good place to let teens try out the various social networking tools that are so popular in todays world.  How would this help them in their future I hear you asking? Well I don’t know for sure but isn’t exposure in a safe secure environment better that sneaking around and won’t this also help them become aufait with using computers?

Next week I will be meeting with the parents to present the findings of our survey.  In the mean time I have to suffice with meeting the Youth like I did last week at St Zita’s in Borrowdale.

A picnic in Zimbabwe

November 7th, 2009
by admin

Life is a Picnic When you are going to make an effort to travel to a beautiful location for the afternoon or day, don’t let sloppy catering and a lack of comfort spoil the outing! A day out requires 10 times more planning than any other event at home. Planning wins hands down over spontaneity to make sure that it will be a day to remember. In an ideal world you would have a fully kitted caravan or as the Americans call them an RV. Ground Sheet – a heavy duty plastic or canvas to go underneath your rugs or thows. Cushions – plenty or directors chairs (made popular by Makro and Game -during our trips to South Africa) Sandwiches – tend to get soggy inside containers – instead of preparing them in advance, prepare all the elements in separate containers and assemble them on the spot! Take a pot of hummus or pre-sliced ham or roast beef. You can ofcoure butter the rolls in advance. ICE – instead to trying to keep the milk cold -fill a bottle two thirds with milk and freeze overnight – you can do this with water and juices. For cutlery – I recommend investing in a picnic set (set for 4 costs around R120 at Cape Union Mart) courtesy of www.eatout.co.zw – coming soon www.zimhotels.com

Restaurants in Harare

November 5th, 2009
by admin

Promotions are a great way that the restaurants in Harare, Zimbabwe are trying to encourage more people to eatout. The concentration of restaurants has always been high in Zimbabwe but I am amazed as new restaurants continue to open. In the past two days I have seen two new restaurants. I look forward to seeing the new Lime restaurant opening next to St Johns and just today I saw lovely new equipment being unpacked at the Colcom complex off Coventry Road. This restaurant will have the benefit of Eileen who has spent a lot of time on Scotland where the hospitality is excellent.

You can count on the team at eatout to ensure that you are the first to know. Next week we have a promotion with Mama Mia so don’t forget to visit the site to check it out.
